In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, called Kali Yuga, health, wealth, learning, religious discipline, good fortune, etc., have all considerably diminished and thus prayascitta (atonement) in general has become nothing more than an elephants bathing: as soon as the elephant is out of the water, he throws mud/earth on himself.

In this way, and after proper examination, the remedial measures like some puja, mantra/tantra or different forms of jewellery, often offered to a naive customer, are lacking in punch and stamina, typical for this Iron Age.

Still, according to Bhagavad Gita As It Is and Srimad Bhagavatam, there is one highly auspicious activity called Kirtan.

Especially Harinam, chanting of Holy Names of God, either individually through japa or congregationally, with or without instruments, is way more effective in neutralising any possible negative influence.

It's authorised, potent, accessible to all, no matter caste or creed and can be practiced at any time, any place and in any circumstance, thus ideal for yogic consistency; well known also in Christian, Sufi, Sikh and Buddhist circles.

KN Rao advises for example Visnu Sahasra Nama, but myself have been chanting the maha-mantra Hare Krsna for 30 years, respect Ekadasi fasting days and have visited many times sacred places (tirthas) in India. It has proven more than sufficient for want of spiritual & material stability.

So, the following are highly recommended:

BHAGAVAD GITA AS IT IS + JAPA

MEDITATE

OFFER OBEISANCES

OFFER PRAYERS

PUJA

BECOME FRIEND OF... and...

DO SOME MORE PILGRIMAGE..

FOR EXAMPLE PARIKRAMA ROUND

GOVARDHANA HILL.

As long as it is in relationship to the Supreme Person, in India known as Visnu or Krsna, than the effect will be maximum.
